Vicente Guallart

Chief Architect of the Barcelona City Council (2011–2015), Vicente Guallart was in charge of the development of the city’s strategic vision and promotion of large city projects. Guallart served as President of the Committee for Quality in Architecture and was responsible for creating the city’s design codes. Guallart has been involved in more than 400 projects in Barcelona and presented “Barcelona 5.0”, a new model of urban development.

From 2001 to 2011, he was the director of the Master’s Program of Advanced Architecture at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. Vicente Guallart was among the first who started researching and working with the connection between architecture, nature, and technology in the creation of new city models. From 1994 until 2011, he led the architecture bureau Guallart Architects, participated in the development of planning solutions, architecture and landscape design projects in Spain, Taiwan, China, Costa Rica, and France.

Guallart is the author of books “Geologics” and “Self-Sufficient City”, co-author of the Metapolis Dictionary of Advanced Architecture. The projects of Vicente Guallart have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Modern Art and the American Institute of Architecture in Washington.
